At Mitchell Elementary, we have a wonderful combination of hard-working, eager-to-learn students, dedicated and caring faculty and staff, and supportive and involved parents. This combination makes our school a perfect environment for students to thrive. Children are respected as individuals and are expected to be respectful to others. Each child’s personal strengths and talents are recognized and encouraged, and they learn to appreciate the strengths and differences of others. Mitchell has a history of academic excellence. Our students learn at a young age that doing one’s personal best is important, and that friendships, fun, and fantastic experiences are also integral parts of a Mitchell Elementary education.

Janie Browning of Gadsden City schools was presented with the prestigious Charles Mott Award at the Alabama Community Education Association (ACEA) conference in Mobile, Alabama. This award, the highest honor bestowed by ACEA, commemorates Charles Stewart Mott, who initiated community education in Flint, Michigan during the 1930s. Mott, known for his philanthropic efforts and commitment to education, established the C.S. Mott Foundation in 1926 to improve education and healthcare in Flint. The Mott Foundation continues to be a leading force in promoting democratic ideals, including community education, grassroots citizen participation, and global environmental awareness.
